A mid-friday post : a long time since i had my last very engaging conversation

Just have to write this mid-day post! Made me excited once again about what I really want to research on: possibilities of harvesting wind energy in Singapore! I think it will come to reality soon. XD

MEGA LOVES!!

Ok, before I had this very inspiring conversation and totally exciting insight on what is to come, I met a very discriminating uncle. Went downstairs to have my brunch with JCH in the stroller, and saw a uncle alone at the table under the ceiling fan. I merely gave him 2 sentences in Chinese: the first was a polite question of "(这里)有人坐吗?" and the second was an answer to his question "六个月大了". It's my normal response to see Chinese uncles and speak to them in Chinese, it just comes. And the next thing that came from his mouth? "你是中国哪里来的?" And his demeanour and posture immediately changed to that of a masters body language.

I must MUST put disclaimer first: I myself do not discriminate against Chinese. In fact I know quite a lot of them. The only thing I don't like about them are those that give Chinese a bad name.

I must say, I was very offended. Each time these uncles and aunties assume that I'm from Chinese, I get offended. When I told this uncle that I'm a Singaporean, his whole body language changed again.

Just because I speak Chinese so well, that makes me a China Chinese. Well, I am proud that my verbal Chinese is good. Bcos if I ever want JCH to be good in his Chinese or English, I first have to be good in it in order to teach him properly. And not go reading " 是" as "四" or "吃" as "次".

Like I was posting it in FB, may be its time I go perfect that British accent so that means I'm a British, or that American accent so that means I'm American, or even my now-wasted-away-Jap so that means I'm Japanese. Seriously? WAH LAU EH!!! He dare not even look me in the eye after knowing my hubby is selling doing biz RIGHT THERE! So glad he went away fast when his son came over.

That's when another uncle came by and took his place. You see, great people do not judge. They don't care who are you, what are you, they engage you.

He was telling me all about the pneumatic waste collection system; about his research and the pilot project that happened years ago, and how this system of waste collection is being carried out in more places now by companies that took up his patent system and knowledge. We talked about QS as a profession as well, how he started as a QS, moved to project management, set up a company supplying door frames to HDB projects, piloting PVC doors and retiring early so that he can do research works for environmentally friendly and sustainable technologies.

Probably he could be making up part of the things he told me about himself. I don't really care. But when he talks about his research works, that passion, the collaboration he has had and going to have, the works that came out of his research, the impact, contribution, and what he is moving into next - I don't think anyone can lie about where the heart is. Its exciting, what he is going to do next. I really do hope he will succeed in promoting environmentally friendly technologies for the betterment of our lives.

Like I was telling him, to this point in my life, I have only met 2 men with such drive for such technologies - one is him (obviously), and the other one was a man I met and had the chance to use his experience, understandings, equipment for my FYP dissertation on wind turbines in Sg. And he is the only one who has managed to break through the government obstacles. The other guy couldn't get the assistance he needed to further his project, eventually sold all that he has to SP, and went on in search of other technologies. He told me to put this guy in contact with him. Well, possible. But I have forgotten to take his namecard.

HOW BLUR CAN I GET NOW!!

But very invigorating moments there. His name is Mr Jensen Chia (pronounciation). I hope he will succeed in implementing his research results, and that many others will take on his patented systems and knowledge and spread it further in other parts of Sg.

Here's a little micro wind turbine project in HK which made me believe, the day will come for pretty turbines to be seen in SG.
